Who We Are

The Stables is a community facility open 6 days per week, on the edge of suburbia in the City of Onkaparinga. We provide an opportunity for people to find comfort and support in a place of peace.  With 33 acres of space there is room for everyone. Would you like a stroll along the creek? Is foraging in the Op-Shop more your style, or do you like time out with other women or mate-ship, having men to men conversations? Children love to play in the playground here or visit the animals and gardens with parents. Children enjoy playing musical instruments and in the creche during church meetings. Unemployed people, needy, and those in financial stress can find help with volunteer programs, food assistance and financial counselling. There are various groups that meet during the week, so if you need a prayer, a listening ear, a place of worship or someone who cares, the Stables is here for you. Come, see and enjoy.

Our History

Sonny Hoet and his wife Lynne established The Stables Christian Centre  in 1993.  They saw a need to provide a facility that would bring people together to help one another break the poverty cycle.  Their inspiration came from the words of Jesus.

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed”

Luke 4:18

Our vision is to offer the love of Christ to individuals, families and young people who are in need. So we show care and give practical assistance to empower people to make choices that will enhance their overall health and spiritual well being.

We seek to help families and individuals to belong to and participate in community life. Because  people can become free from poverty, trauma and hopelessness.  They can experience friendships, support and love to help them grow in spirit and have a renewed love for life. We provide opportunities for people to obtain skills for employment. So along the journey they gain self esteem confidence and a love of life and community.
